Dear Writer,
Welcome to Jellybabies.
The story begins after a 10 year clinical trial at the date when Theseus Wise was told he would be publishing his findings and sees the family moving house to a new address where they may be protected when the announcement is made. The children: 14, 11 and 6 are aware of this but all expect a quick resolution. In fact, the new neighbourhood will be their home for the next 6 years as the powers of this world attempt (mostly off screen) to anticipate and prepare for possible consequences of an immortal human race.
Over ten series we will take the viewer through every human dilemma possible as the play area grows from a claustrophobic battleground for control of ‘Jelly’ - the immortal pill, on to the world stage where newly immortalized humans wrestle with the political implications of living forever.
Throughout the show we will centre on the Wise family and their friends. Simultaneously we will look out on the world, first through their eyes on TV and through news, later through the worlds eyes at the family as they develop into world powers, themselves.
The show will be a world first in two way:
It is Multi-Version by design.
Jellybabies will be made by 20 studios in 20 languages.
Jellybabies will be filmed backwards and forwards.
7 principle characters are getting younger so we will film their scenes from the end as we film everybody else from the beginning.
Obviously to finish the core script I am going to need a small team, no more than 5-10. To become multi-version I will need at least 20, but that is a year away. The skills I need are:
Lots of voices: Can you relate to old and young?
Specialisms: Are you able to write; Science, Politics, Drama, Other TV/Media/Film, Comedy?
Patience: Can you handle being cut? In collaborative writing this has to happen.
I hope to finish writing in 18 months and to begin contacting studios well before that. I have 1000 pages. I need another 3000. That’s some good real estate, but who could honestly put a price on it?
